General Questions

1.    Can I use any type of flour to bake bread in my breadmaker?
Yes, in principle all common flour types can be used

2.    What is the best way to clean the inside of my breadmaker if the dough runs over?
The inside of the bread machine can be cleaned with oven cleaner. Make sure the heating element is properly protected. The heating element can be cleaned by letting the breadmaker run a program once or twice, without baking tin. The heating element will burn itself clean.

3.    There is smoke coming from my breadmaker, what should I do?
A little bit of smoke is fine, it may be steam or some dough may have spilled onto the heating element. If there is a lot of smoke, switch off the appliance and clean well.

4.    Where can I find more information about temperatures and baking times?
Consult the manual for more information.

5.    Can I use this bread machine to make recipes from other cookbooks?
Yes. However, the recipes on the Princess website were written specially for this machine, and the results may vary when using other recipes.

6.    Why is the kneading blade not working?
Make sure that the baking tin is positioned correctly. This is done by turning the baking tin clockwise in the appliance (bayonet fitting) until it clicks and only then place the dough hook in the baking tin.

7.    I want to make gluten free bread, which machine should I buy?
One thing to keep in mind when buying a breadmaker for making gluten-free bread is that the maker has a square baking tin. For further questions about recipes etc., we refer you to the Dutch Coeliac Society (www.glutenvrij.nl).

8.    How can I test if the yeast is still good?
Dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in half a cup of lukewarm water and add 1 teaspoon of yeast to this mixture. After a few minutes the mixture will start bubbling and fizzing. If this happens, the yeast is still good.

9.    My bread collapses when the machine switches from rise to bake. What's going on?
This may be caused by two things. You have used too much water or too much yeast. In most cases it is caused by too much water. The recipes in the manual are basic recipes. You may at some point use flour that requires less moisture than indicated. We recommend using 10 to 20ml less moisture. This ought to solve the problem.

10.    There is a bubble in the bread. What can I do about this?
One solution is to use more water. Air bubbles are created by the kneading of the dough. If there is a small air bubble, it will become bigger when the bread rises.

11.    The bread is almost or entirely impossible to remove from the baking tin, what can I do?
This may be caused by two things. The non-stick coating of your baking tin is worn or the bread has not cooled sufficiently. If the non-stick coating of your baking tin is worn, we advise you to buy a new baking tin. To find out the exact cause, we recommend the following: once the breadmaker is has finished its programme, remove the baking tin along with the bread from the maker and let it cool on the counter for 15 to 20 minutes. Then hold the baking tin upside down and lightly shake the bread from it.
