General Questions

  1. The indicator light of my iron switches on and off again, what's wrong?
There's nothing wrong with your iron. This is the normal operation of the thermostat. It works to keep the temperature constant, and therefore switches on and off again.
  2. How can I prevent the holes in the sole plate from becoming clogged?
This can be prevented by regular descaling.

  3. How can I prevent my steam iron from leaking?
You can only iron with steam when the sole plate has warmed up properly (the light on the thermostat has switched off).
The thermostat of the iron should always be within the steam zone. Outside of this zone the temperature is too low to optimally produce steam.
Fill the water reservoir to the maximum level.
Empty the water reservoir after each use.
Never use pure distilled or demineralised water. Use only tap water. In the case of very hard water (over 16.8 ° DH), you can mix half water with distilled or demineralised water
  4. How can I clean the sole plate of my iron?
You can clean your Princess sole plate as follows: plug the iron into the wall socket and set the thermostat button to “minimum”. Remove the plug from the wall socket as soon as the light has switched off. You can then use a plastic scouring pad to clean the still tepid sole plate. You can do this with the green (plastic) abrasive side. Moisten the sponge with plain tap water. Never use cleaning or descaling agents.

  5. How do I clean the anti-calcium strip of my Princess iron?
Pull the anti-calcium strip from your iron and leave it to soak for about 2 hours in a little vinegar or pure lemon juice.
  6. How can I avoid damaging the sole plate of my iron?
During ironing, put the iron vertically on its back rather than horizontally on the metal holder of the ironing board. For steam generators: place the iron on the stable and heat resistant ironing surface.

  7. How can I avoid brown spots on my ironing?
Use only tap water in your steam iron. If the water is very hard, we advise you to mix the tap water with half distilled or demineralised water. Do not use scented ironing water (including Vaporesse!) in your Princess steam iron. Ideally, empty the water reservoir after every ironing session.

  8. How can I prevent the fabric from burning?
Always check the ironing instructions in your clothes. Set the thermostat to the temperature indicated on the ironing instructions. Using a higher temperature will burn your clothes.

  9. How do I prevent water droplets on my ironing?
Always check to see whether the thermostat setting matches the ironing instructions in your clothes. If the temperature is too low, the iron has trouble converting the water into steam. To prevent water drops, the thermostat must always be in the steam zone. Also refer to your manual.

  10. I am using my iron for the first time and it is not steaming properly. What should I do?
Because the iron is new, it takes a while for the water to flow from the water tank via the pump to the steam chamber. If necessary, you can press the steam button several times at intervals to activate the steam.

  11. Can I attach a longer cord to my iron?
No, this is unfortunately not possible.

  12. Can I place a sole plate cover on my iron?
No, this could potentially affect the proper functioning of the iron.

  13. Can I use Vaporesse in my Princess steam iron?
Princess steam irons are not suitable for use with perfumed ironing water like Vaporesse.

  14. My cord is damaged. Can this cause problems?
Yes, if the cord is damaged, it should be replaced by an authorized technician. Regularly check the integrity of the cord.

  15. Should I connect my steam iron to a grounded outlet?
Yes, for your safety irons should always be connected to a grounded outlet.

  16. What can I use the vertical steam function for?
This function can be used as a ‘vertical steamer’ and is useful for steaming curtains and other delicate fabrics, such as suits and dresses. Hold the fabric taut with your hand. Set the thermostat to MAX, press repeatedly on the extra-steam button and move the iron from top to bottom. In doing so, hold the iron at a distance of several centimetres from the garment to avoid damaging the fabric.

  17. Why does the sole plate stick to my garments while ironing?
Check to see whether the thermostat setting matches the ironing instructions in your clothes. If the sole plate is too hot, it will remain stuck to the ironed clothes. Starch may also cause it to stick. It is preferable to spray the starch on the rear of the clothes to be ironed.

  18. What kind of water should I use in my Princess steam iron?
Princess irons are specifically designed for use with tap water. In the case of very hard water (over 16.8°dH), you can mix half water with distilled or demineralised water.
Never use pure distilled or demineralised water. Use only tap water. In the case of very hard water (over 16.8 °dH), you can mix half water with distilled or demineralised water.
Never use pure demineralised water, water from clothes dryers, scented water, softened water, refrigerator water, battery water, water from air conditioners, pure distilled water or rain water, as they may damage the iron. These types of water contain organic waste or mineral elements that concentrate under the influence of heat and cause water spots, brown spots, leakage or premature aging of your iron.
