General Questions

  1. When I first used the appliance, it produced a strange smell. Is it damaged/broken?
    Probably not. In many cases new appliances sometimes produce an odour when they are first used. This is normal and it stops after you have used the appliance several times. If it does not stop, clean the appliance with a damp cloth after it has cooled. When you heat it up the next time, the smell should have disappeared. If this is not the case, please contact Princess. We will gladly be of assistance.
     
  2. Can I use a straightener on wet hair too?
    A regular straightener cannot be used on wet hair. Princess has a number of straighteners in the range that you can use on both wet and dry hair.
     
  3. What styling products can I use with a straightener?
    We recommend always applying a protective lotion or spray to your hair before using a straightener. This makes your hair less dry and/or damaged. This must be a product that is specifically designed for use with a straightener (no mousse, wax or hairspray).

  7. How do I get a wave in my hair with a straightener?
    Determine whether you want to create an inward or outward wave. 
    Hold the appliance so that the curved plates make the desired type of wave.
    Grab a lock of hair of about 3 - 4cm wide.
    Place the lock of hair approximately 3 - 5cm above the hair between the plates and squeeze the handles of the appliance firmly together.
    Pull the styler down along the hair in a few seconds.
    If the plates are 3 - 5cm above the end of the lock of hair, turn the appliance slightly toward the direction of the desired wave (see figure) for optimum effect. Do not hold the styler still anywhere when pulling the styler down along the lock of hair to prevent overheating.
    Repeat this process after 20 seconds until you've achieved the desired result.
    Let your hair cool. Do not comb or brush the hair until it is cool, because this will spoil the hairstyle you have created.
     
  8. Does the straightener damage my hair?
    If you use the styling iron wisely and within certain limits, your hair will not be damaged. The use of oils and/or other special products also helps limit damage to your hair (you can seek advice at a pharmacy or at the hairdresser). Proper maintenance of the styling iron is also essential to prevent damaged hair. Make sure to keep the plates clean. Remnants of styling products can remain on the plates, which can break hair or lead to the hair straightener pulling on a stuck lock of hair.
    Regular use of a ceramic styling iron may in fact improve the quality of your hair. Make sure you use hair care products that look after hair, such as heat-resistant creams and soothing balms. Many of these products also contain shine enhancers, such as silicone, that prevent the styled hair from drying out. In principal you can use a regular styling iron without any problem, but the more you use a styling iron, the more you need to take care of your hair.
     
  9. What are the dimensions of the plates?
    These depend on the type, see the specifications for each product.
     
  10. I cannot get my hair straight enough. What should I do?
    You have perhaps clamped too much hair between the plates.
    When using the styling iron, make sure the locks are not wider than 5 - 6cm to achieve a good result.
     
  11. I have static hair.
    Perhaps the appliance was not hot enough, because you did not allow it enough time to warm up.
    Set a higher temperature setting, wait until the appliance is heated up and try again. Do not touch the plates/rod as this could burn your fingers, even if the appliance has not yet reached the set temperature setting.
     
  12. How do I clean the appliance?
    Wait until the appliance is cooled and then wipe it with a clean, damp cloth.
